Android phone and TV

Your library, in your pocket and on the big screen.

Two free companion apps for Crynet Showcase. Browse everything from your phone and cast it to the TV, or open the library straight on Android TV. Your Windows PC stays the host and does the heavy lifting.

Crynet Showcase
How casting works

The phone asks, the PC streams, the TV shows.

Pick a title on your phone. Crynet Showcase on your Windows PC sends it to the TV over your home Wi-Fi, and the phone becomes the remote.

CastNow castingasksCrynet Showcasestreams over Wi-Fi
PhoneYour PCTV

Pick a title on your phone and press Cast.

The phone asks your PC for it.

Crynet Showcase on the PC streams it to the TV over Wi-Fi.

The TV shows it. The phone is just the remote; the video never touches it.

Phone asks

Pick a title and press Cast. The phone only sends the request, it never plays video.

PC streams

Crynet Showcase on your Windows PC streams the file over your home Wi-Fi.

TV shows

Chromecast, Google TV or a DLNA smart TV plays it. Your phone becomes the remote.

The phone asks, the PC streams, the TV shows. The video never travels through the phone. Your PC has to be on and on the same network as the TV. Casting works with Chromecast and Google TV devices and with DLNA smart TVs. Or skip the hop altogether: the Android TV app plays straight from the PC.

Phone app

A remote and a tracker, not a player

Crynet Showcase for Android puts the whole library in your hand. The watching happens on the TV.

Browse offline

The whole library with artwork: movies and series, down to the episode. It is cached on the phone, so browsing works even when the PC is off.

Cast and control

Pick a title and the PC streams it to your TV. Play, pause, skip 10 seconds, seek, next episode, stop. The controls sit in the notification shade and on the lock screen.

Keep track

Mark watched, rate, and pick up where you left off with Up next and Continue watching. Everything syncs to the PC and to Trakt.

Discover

Search the whole TMDb catalogue, keep a list, see a calendar of upcoming episodes, get notified when they air, and put Up next on your home screen as a widget.

Pairing

Scan the QR code on the PC's Phone page (Setup > Phone) or type the 6-digit code. The app finds the PC on the Wi-Fi by itself and remembers more than one PC.

By design

Not a player

It never plays video on the phone. The TV is for watching. The phone is for choosing, controlling and keeping track.

Android TV app

The library on the big screen, built for a remote.

Crynet Showcase for Android TV opens your library right on the TV. No phone in the loop, no casting: it talks to the PC directly.

  • Plays straight from the PC over Wi-Fi. The TV app is the screen, so there is no casting hop.
  • Built for a remote, from the first screen to playback.
  • A Watch Next row on the Android TV and Google TV home screen.
  • An ambient screensaver made from your own artwork.
  • Keeps up with the PC on its own: new titles appear, and you can filter by genre and language.
  • Playback speed control.
  • Set up by letting the TV find the PC and approving on the PC, or scan the TV's on-screen code with a phone that is already paired.

Works on Android TV and Google TV with Google Play. Other Android-based boxes are not supported.

On Google Play

Both apps are on Google Play.

Both apps need Crynet Showcase running on your Windows PC. It is the host: it keeps the library and streams the files. About Crynet Showcase

Questions

Good to know

The short answers for the Android apps. Everything else is in the Help Center.

  • Can I watch on my phone?+
No, and that is by design. The phone app never plays video. It browses the library, casts to the TV and keeps track of what you watch. For watching, cast from the phone to a Chromecast, Google TV or DLNA smart TV, or use the Android TV app.
  • Which TVs can I cast to?+
Chromecast and Google TV devices, and smart TVs that support DLNA. Your PC does the streaming, so the TV only needs to be on the same Wi-Fi. If you have an Android TV or Google TV, the Android TV app is the other route: it plays straight from the PC with no casting hop.
  • Do I need to be on the same Wi-Fi?+
Yes. The phone, the PC and the TV need to be on the same home network, and Crynet Showcase needs to be running on the PC. Browsing the library on the phone still works when the PC is off because it is cached, but casting needs the PC.
  • The phone cannot find my PC.+
Windows often marks a new Wi-Fi network as Public, which stops phones from reaching the PC. Crynet Showcase warns about this on its Phone page (Setup > Phone) and can set the network to Private for you. Then pair again: scan the QR code or type the 6-digit code. Also switch off any VPN on the phone or the PC, check that a third-party firewall is not blocking Crynet Showcase, and make sure both are on the same Wi-Fi.
  • Is it free?+
Yes. Both Android apps are free. Crynet Showcase for Windows is the paid part: it is free to try, and licenses are on the pricing page.

Take your library off the desk.

Two free apps, one Windows PC doing the work. Install, pair, and the whole library is on your phone and your TV.
